The Making of Milton Keynes
The city of Milton Keynes started life over 50 years ago as a couple of small towns and several villages covering a largely rural area. The plan was to create a new town of 250,000, which has now been achieved.
A fair minded person would now judge this to have been a success, resulting in a clean, accessible city, with a range of modern amenities.
This story is told in some d detail by local historian, John Taylor.
Volume 1 describes the birth of the new town and the establishment of the development corporation.
Volume 2 describes development in the 1970s.
Volume 3 covers the years to 1992 when the Milton Keynes Development Corporation nation was wound down.
Volume 4 collects the press releases of MKDC as a contemporary reference of progress.
